If you drink, you’re familiar with the feeling: Depending on your tolerance level, there’s that one sip that lets you know the booze has taken its effect. Suddenly, the room is warmer, your face feels flushed, and that one guy is a lot funnier than you remember him being five minutes ago.

Marcos Alberti decided to document that progression, taking people’s portraits as they had one, two, and three glasses of wine. The result is a photo series that perfectly describes what it’s like to get increasingly buzzed, and the images are hilarious to see in succession.

“There is a saying about wine that I really like and it’s something like this: ‘The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love and the third glass is about mayhem,’ ” the Brazilian photographer said in an interview. “I really wanted to see it for myself if that affirmation was, in fact, true.”
